About Fondasyon Ginen:

Fondasyon Ginen is a young initiative based in St Raphael in rural northern Haiti. It was founded by Louino Robillard and his wife Sabina – Louino was born in St Raphael but was raised in the urban ghetto, Cite Soleil. The foundation is his way of searching to connect with his roots and to give value to rural Haitian culture.

Fondasyon Ginen se yon jen inisyatif ki baze nan St Raphael nan depateman No. Li fonde pa Louino Robillard ak madanm li ki se Sabina. Louino te fet nan zon nan men ki grandi nan Site Soley. Fondasyon an se fason l’ap chache pou rekonekte ak lakay li e pou valorize kilti riral ayisyen.

Why Ginen?

Ginen is the Haitian Creole reference to the land in Africa where their ancestors came from before they were taken as slaves to the Caribbean. “Ginen” in many ways symbolizes Haiti’s roots – historically, culturally, and spiritually. For some it is also a reference to practitioners of Haitian voudou that focus on the healing, nature-related aspects of the voudou tradition. Fondasyon Ginen is not related to any specific religion or faith, but chose the word Ginen because of its connotations with Haitian roots and culture – and its connection with nature.

Pouki sa Ginen?

Ginen se yon mo kreyol ki fe referans ak peyi an Afrik kote zanset nou yo te soti avan blan yo te pran yo kom esklav nan Karayib. Ginen senbolize rasin ayisyen – nan sans istorik, kiltirel, e espiritiyel. Kek moun le yo tande “Ginen” yo panse avek voudouisan ki fe gerisaj e renmen lanati. Fondasyon Ginen pa lye avek okenn relijyon ou kwayans, men nou te chwasi mo “Ginen” paske li fe nou sonje rasin nou ak kilti nou – e koneksyon nou tout genyen ak lanati.

About Pak Nan Ginen:

Pak nan Ginen is a quarter-acre community park that is being created in a rural area outside of St Raphael in an area called Rakblez. This used to be a heavily forested area, and over the years, due to the degradation of Haiti’s rural economy, many people were forced to resort to cutting down trees to make a living. The community park will be a small model forest, where trees of every kind will be planting with the help of people in the area. It will also be used as a memorial space where trees will be planted in the name of legendary figures in Haitian history, agents of social change from around the world, and family members of people from the community.

Pak nan Ginen se yon pak kominote kap kreye nan yon seksyon kominal deyo Sen Rafayel, nan yon zon ki rele Rakblez. Lontan sa te yon zon ak anpil pye bwa, men apre sitiyasyon difisil ki vin genyen andeyo, moun yo te sanse oblije koupe pye bwa yo pou y viv. Pak sa a pral yon ti fore model, kote nap plante tout kalite pye bwa ak ed moun nan zon nan. Li pral yon espas memoryal tou paske chak pye bwa pral plante nan nom yon hero Ayisyen, yon moun ki te fe lape nan lemond, ak e kek lot moun ki te che pou yon moun nan zon nan ki pa la anko.

The park is also an open space that community members can use, including a shaded meeting space, a well for garden and household use, and a latrine. The area can be used for demonstrations, training, and workshops that neighbors can use to teach their neighbors.

Pak la se yon espas ouvet pou tout aktivite positif nan kominote. Moun yo ka sevi avek li kom yon espas reyinyon, yo sevi ak pwi a, e genyen yon latrin tou. Espas la ka itilize pou fomasyon, demonstrasyon, ak atelye kote moun ka aprann moun tout konesans lokal.
